The Biltmore's Bread Pudding

Ingredients:

  1. 8 cups - cubed day-old bread
  2. 9 - eggs
  3. 2 1/4 cups - milk
  4. 1 3/4 cups - heavy whipping cream
  5. 1 cups - sugar
  6. 3/4 cups - butter melted
  7. 3 teaspoons - vanilla extract
  8. 1 1/2 teaspoons - ground cinnamon
  9. 1 cups - sugar
  10. 1/4 cups - water
  11. 1 tablespoons - lemon juice
  12. 2 tablespoons - butter
  13. 1 cups - heavy whipping cream

Directions:

1. Place bread cubes in a greased 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish. In a large bowl, whisk the eggs, milk, cream, sugar, butter, vanilla and cinnamon. Pour evenly over bread.

2. Bake, uncovered, at 350° F for 40-45 minutes or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean. Let stand for 5 minutes before cutting.

3. Meanwhile, in a small saucepan, bring the sugar, water and lemon juice to a boil. Reduce heat to medium; cook until sugar is dissolved and mixture turns a golden amber color. Stir in butter until melted. Add cream. Remove from the heat. Serve with bread pudding.
